1. POSITION VACANT: Head - Business Development (Two Vacancies), Transform Schools, People for Action, New Delhi

 

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

People For Action (PFA) is a respected Indian NGO that has taken the lead in providing inspired action to improve learning outcomes for students in government schools in India. PFA has set the audacious goal of addressing education and equity issues for 25% children in secondary schools in India, by 2023.

 

PFA’s Transform Schools programme is presently operational in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal. It uses powerful models and high-quality resources to transform Teaching, Learning, School Management, Enrolment and Gender Parity. These are implemented in partnership with State Governments and NGOs.

 

Transform Schools, PFA, with its established, transformational learning model, aims to make its programmes wider and deeper, to impact learning outcomes for 6.6 million children across seven States by 2021.

 

To achieve these goals and fuel PFA’s expansion to new geographies, the organization is seeking to hire accomplished Business Development professionals, with the capability of helping execute business development strategies and supporting the accomplishment of fundraising targets of around INR 5 crores per annum.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to the Deputy Director – Business Development, the Heads - Business Development (HBDs) shall be responsible for researching, scoping, reaching out and maintaining regular contact with institutional donors, to secure new partnership opportunities, including multi-year grants, donor partnerships and corporate alliances, in alignment with Transform Schools’ Business Development Strategy for 2021-2023.

 

The incumbents shall also be accountable for actively building and maintaining institutional partnerships, ensuring donor compliances and relationship management, aligned with the vision and mission of the organisation.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

 

A. Fund Raising & Institutional Partnerships

 

(1) Prospect for potential new partnership opportunities, analysing their feasibility, shaping specific opportunities and presenting recommendations internally;

(2) Suggest and help implement creative and relational strategies for creating new partnerships with donors and partners, after their approval by the Deputy Director – Business Development (DDBD) and Executive Director (ED);

(3) Identify, develop and cultivate multi-year grants;

(4) Write and coordinate concept notes/ project proposals with the programme, monitoring and operations teams and submit these to potential donors;

(5) Develop partnerships and consortiums with other like-minded organisations for the purposes of bidding for large donor projects;

(6) Identify and collaborate with check-out charity opportunities through Point of Sales alliances, with corporates and crowd-funding websites to build a recurring, unrestricted funding channel.

 

B. Donor Relationship Management & Brand Recall

 

(1) Support grant management by ensuring donor due diligence, donor engagement and submission of high-quality reports;

(2) Develop and maintain good relationships with donors by ensuring regular communication, knowledge exchange and sharing of updates;

(3) Ensure uniformity in communication and delivery by collaborating effectively with other members of the team and cross functionally with the Programmes and Operations Departments to ensure that high impact and viable products are pitched;

(4) Work closely with the Business Development team and ED to craft strategies for partners and maximize donations of partners and grants;

(5) Create brand recall amongst supporters, donors and partners, to ensure long-term partnerships, culminating in higher revenue generation.

 

C. Other Responsibilities

 

(1) Periodically revise and present the Business Development and Engagement Strategy based on lessons learned and funding targets to attain the desired scale and impact;

(2) Produce monthly fundraising reports for the DDBD.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Master’s in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or relevant field.

 

Experience:

(1) Minimum of seven years’ experience, of which five years should be in Institutional Partnerships, showcasing an effective track record with not-for-profits;
(2) Experience of managing private and public donor partnerships, possessing relevant networks, that can be leveraged for the organization.

 

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Belief in the power of quality education to impact social and economic outcomes for children;
(2) Data oriented and good experience in donor management;

(3) Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional proposal writing and presentation capabilities;

(4) Strong attention to detail and excellent research skills;

(5) Demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate, present, and influence credibly and effectively at all organisation levels;

(6) Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel and online management tools like Trello, Beautiful.Ai, Flux, Pipedrive, Slack etc.;

(7) Excellent collaboration, management, problem solving skills, ability to prioritise a diverse and demanding workload, and meet deadlines consistently;

(8) Strong interpersonal, networking, communications and IT skills;

(9) Alignment with Transform Schools mission and priorities;

(10) A sense of humour and patience.

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

Gross compensation budgeted for the position, including performance incentives, is Rs. 16 lacs per annum. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.
