1. POSITION VACANT: Senior Program Manager- Research, Grameen Foundation India, Gurugram




Grameen Foundation India (GFI) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Grameen Foundation USA and works with the mission to enable the poor, especially women, to create a world without poverty and hunger. GFI’s program portfolio spans the financial inclusion and livelihoods sectors and is particularly lauded for its work on deploying cutting-edge digital platforms and solutions, to solve the most pressing problems faced by the poor and vulnerable.


About the Project:


GFI is implementing a long-term (5 years) and large-scale research project, funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation, for enabling the successful transition of small holding farmers to sustainable agriculture, through effective and efficient digital pathways.


The project is part of a multi-country action research project ‘AgriPath’ being implemented in Asia and Africa by a consortium led by the Center for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Berne, Switzerland. Apart from GFI, the consortium includes International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Farm Better, and Grameen Foundation USA.




Reporting to the Associate Director - Client Insights for Impact, the Senior Program Manager- Research (SPMR) shall support all GFI projects in the monitoring, research, and evaluation domain, using appropriate tools and techniques. S/he shall be responsible for portfolio management, providing technical oversight, data management and analytics, relationship management, mentoring subordinates, knowledge management, and project documentation.


Key Roles and Responsibilities:


(1) Coordinate adoption of sustainable agriculture practices, including research, related to digital advisory services on sustainable land management;

(2)  Help build the capacity of Extension Service Providers (ESPs), and selected small holding farmers, to serve an expanding network of small holding farmers practicing sustainable agriculture practices, with essential data resources;

(3) Work with farmers, ESPs and other research consortium partners, to ensure accurate and timely collection of data related to sustainable agriculture practices through digital advisory services;

(4) Maintain systems for data storage and quality control;

(5) Contribute to analysis and presentation of research results and reports;

(6) Contribute to outreach products, including articles, webinars, and presentations;

(7) Hire and train enumerators in collaboration with consortium partners;

(8) Handle local ethic approval, help with back-and-forth translation of survey materials, and coordinate sampling of the respective subject pool for different research outputs;

(9) Act as GFI’s primary contact for managing research activities in India and Nepal, and for supporting research design, in countries in Africa.





Master’s degree (preferably Ph.D.) in Agricultural Economics/ Agriculture/ Economics/ Statistics or Rural Management.



(1) Minimum 8 to 10 years experience in agricultural programmes of which at least six years must be in agriculture-related research;

(2) Knowledge of quantitative data analysis software such as STATA/R is essential;

(3) Knowledge of qualitative data analysis software such as ATLAS.ti/ NVivo is preferred;

(4) Strong understanding of robust research methodologies such as Randomised Control Trials, Quasi-Experimental Research Design, etc.;

(5) Strong understanding of the agriculture domain in India. Prior experience of research in the agriculture domain is needed, with significant knowledge of value chain, cropping patterns and market dynamics;

(6) Good understanding of econometric and statistical analysis and agriculture economics is desired.

(1) Deep commitment to the eradication of poverty and alignment with GFI’s mission;

(2) Passion for supporting small and marginal farmers through the development and promotion of sustainable agriculture practices;

(3) Outstanding project management skills, with a proven track record of achievement under a range of challenging situations. Experience in managing multi-stakeholder arrangements for timely delivery of project deliverables is also required;

(4) Strong writing skills and demonstrated history of publishing in peer-reviewed journals;

(5) Flexibility to work across different time zones and undertake frequent domestic or international travel, as necessary.




Gross compensation for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
