2. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:

 

SOS Children’s Villages of India (SOSCVI) are an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization working for the holistic development of parentless children as well as women and children from vulnerable families. For over 5 decades we continue to provide children without parental care or at the risk of losing it, a value chain of quality care services that goes beyond childcare alone, to ensure comprehensive child development. Founded in 1949 in Austria, SOS Children’s Villages began its India operations in 1964. As on May31, 2024 we have reached over 48,895 children through our 31 SOS Children’s Villages and 27 community projects in India positively impacting over 86,093 lives. SOS India has worked with children, communities, disaster struck and disaster-prone areas, giving hope to vulnerable communities and families. SOS India has the largest operation within the SOS International Federation of 134 countries.

The organisation has fostered four generations of parentless and abandoned children and enabled them to lead constructive lives. The children are provided an identity, a family to call their own, and most importantly, a life that has set examples for others to grow up to become active and contributing members of society. SOSCVI also provides support to vulnerable families as a part of its Family Strengthening Programme.

 

Family Strengthening Programme

 

SOS India provides support to vulnerable families as a part of its Family Strengthening (FS) Programme. It is a preventive community intervention programme through which over 35000 children have been empowered as on May 31, 2024. Designed to prevent children from losing parental care or being abandoned, this programme runs in slums & rural areas, within a 30 km radius of an SOS Children’s Village. The program participants of FS are children from the most vulnerable families i.e., children of widows, single women, and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families as well as families whose livelihoods have been impacted by disaster. Spanning 5 years, the programme aims to enable families to move out of the vicious cycle of poverty towards greater dignity and self-reliance by ensuring children’s education and income generating capacity development of the caregivers.

 

The organisation has also been a first responder, each time a natural or man-made disaster has struck India, providing active assistance and initiating relief operations and activities, with central importance being given to affected children.

 

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for instituting robust financial systems and processes  function for the organisation, particularly in terms of financial planning, management, reporting, cost management and controls. This position has a key role to play in aligning the finance function with strategy and supporting on-ground execution. The CFO will be expected to take the lead in enforcing strong financial discipline and cost control measures with appropriate risk management systems to maximise the potential of funds contributed and optimize the spends.

 

Key Responsibilities:
(1) Business and financial strategy and planning, monitoring, management and reporting as per local and SOS International requirements. This includes management and development of policies, systems, processes and personnel involved;

(2) Reporting and accounting as per regulatory and legal requirements including taxation, FCRA, annual reporting and accounts;

(3) Financial staff management, motivation, training, recruitment and selection;

 

Other Areas of Contribution/ Responsibility:

(4) Manage company insurance, licensing, contracts and agreements, legal areas and activities, corporate level negotiations;

(5) Ensure adequate internal controls across all operating and financial processes of the organization to minimize/ eliminate the risks arising out of fraud, misappropriation or mismanagement;
(6) Install cost management and control techniques/ tools to facilitate optimization of administrative expenses across the organization and thus enhance funds for program needs;
(7) Create and manage a robust MIS reporting process covering all the operational and administrative needs of the organization;
(8) Ensure financial compliance as per statutory and legal requirements;
(9) Safeguard the assets (immovable, moveable and liquid funds) of the organization and maximize the returns on investment;
(10) Facilitate an ethical and best audit process – both internal and statutory – to ensure good reporting and overall governance;
(11) Automation of financial processes with emphasis on remote accounting and management control systems.

 

Specific Deliverables:
(1) Responsible for funds control and allocation of funds for programs and schools including conditions governing their use;
(2) Participate in business and financial strategy and planning, including monitoring, management and reporting (both local and international);

(3) Help develop policies, guidelines, systems, processes and SOPs in all financial areas and ensure their proper management;

(4) Develop and implement financial reporting guidelines and formats across different functions and levels of the organization;

(5) Responsible for planning, thorough analysis and preparation of budget and submission to SOS-KDI on time;
(6) Ensure strict adherence to statutory laws and regulations;

(7) Responsible for co-ordination with projects on financial aspects;

(8) Develop audit programs, plan the audits (internal as well as statutory, and including special assignments), plan audit resources (both internal and external), engage external resources following proper, due diligent processes and Finance Audit Committee (FAC)/ Board/ Trust approval, ensuring the timely reporting and escalation of important issues, if any;

(9) Responsible for timely and accurate compilation and submission of desired financial reports to the FAC, Board, Trust and General Body;

(10) Responsible for investment of all idle cash as directed by the Governing Body/ Board/ Trust;
(11) Periodic verification and tagging of all assets of the organization;

(12) Coordinate with Projects/ Programs function for all financial aspects, and their risk analysis including mitigation and monitoring;

(13) Overall management of co-workers in the finance team including Recruitment, Team Building, Assessing the training needs of the co-workers, facilitating their training programs, motivating them to improve efficiency and being responsible for their performance enhancement in coordination with HR;

(14) Liaise with other functions and departments and serve as their financial advisor wherever and whenever required;

(15) Operationalize the remote accounting system.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualification and Experience:

(1) Qualified CAs with 10-15 years of experience in Financial Management will be preferred;
(2) Applicants with ICWA, or MBA with a specialization in Finance, or a Post-Graduation in Finance from a reputed institute with relevant experience shall also be considered.

(1) Excellent communication skills. Exposure to 1-2 regional languages would be an advantage. High proficiency in English language is required;

5. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

 

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
