PRADAN is a respected Indian, non-profit organisation, established in 1983 and registered under the Societies Registration Act. The organization works with the rural poor to enhance their income and standard of living.


PRADAN is the largest non-profit in the livelihood space in the country, with more than 400 professional staff, spread across seven states (viz. Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and West Bengal).


PRADAN promotes Self-Help Groups, develops locally relevant economic activities, mobilises finances from government schemes and introduces models to improve livelihoods of the rural poor and sustain their progress.

Purpose of the Position:


PRADAN and Transform Rural India Foundation (TRIF) have been provided a three-year project by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to support the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) under the Ministry of Rural Development in successfully implementing the Model Cluster Level Federation (CLF) programme.


A dedicated entity, the Centre for Development of Community Collectives (CDCC) is a part of the project and requires an Expert to help strengthen SHG Federations. The Expert will work closely with the Central and/or State Governments and relevant stakeholders, to ensure effective planning and implementation of the program.




The Expert, Strengthening SHG Federations will work  as part of the CDCC embedded team in National Mission Management Unit (NMMU), Institution Building & Capacity Building (IBCB) team, in guiding different State Rural Livelihoods Missions (SRLMs), on implementation strategy and roll-out of Model CLF.


Key Deliverables:

Support the NMMU IBCB team and be directly involved to

(1) Design, develop and plan implementation of various activities related to the Model CLF program and other related activities;

(2) Develop various advisories to be issued by NRLM related to roll-out of the Model CLF programme;

(3) Hold roll-out of various central initiatives of NRLM to support capacity building of various aspects of building model federations like financial management, etc. across the country;

(4) Identify good practices in the NRLM ecosystem with potential for replication and develop these into replicable prototypes;

(5) Engage with and support the SRLMs in implementation of various activities that are part of the Model CLF and related programmes;

(6) Identify opportunities for convergence across various NRLM verticals to synergise development of Model CLFs;

(7) Actively engage with CDCC for support and collaboration.





Applicants must have Post Graduate Degree/ Diploma in Rural Management/ Management, Social Work, Sociology, Humanities, or equivalent, from a reputed institute.



(1) Minimum 10 years of experience in forming and nurturing SHGs and higher tier collectives, of which five years must be in a leadership role;

(2) Experience of working with large scale programs of Central and/or State Governments, or with multi-lateral agencies or CSOs, is essential.


Skills and Competencies:

(1) Good written and verbal skills in English;

(2) Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel;

(3) Excellent interpersonal skills;

(4) Willing to travel frequently.




Gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs. 14 lacs per annum. Compensation offered to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and past salary history.
