1. POSITION VACANT:  Zonal Child Health Coordinator, India Health Action Trust (IHAT), Bareilly, Farrukhabad and Gonda (3 vacancies)


Established in 2003 by University of Manitoba (UM), as part of a five-year (2001 to 2006) bilateral development project between Canada and India and registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 1976 in 2009, aims at improving public health initiatives by supporting programs nationally and globally through providing comprehensive technical assistance in program planning, management and monitoring.

India Health Action Trust (IHAT) has been providing comprehensive technical assistance and training in programme planning and management to the State AIDS Control Societies of Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Goa.

IHAT has set up a Technical Support Unit (TSU) for the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2013, to provide integrated and embedded techno-managerial support to strengthen existing health system for achieving sustained health outcomes at scale. IHAT focuses on improving the coverage of key RMNCHA+, Nutrition, Family Planning, Pneumonia and Diarrhea interventions and services in the state from the funding support of Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation (BMGF), Central and State government.

Reporting to the Team Leader-Child Health, the Zonal Child Health Coordinator will be responsible for overall implementation, monitoring and management of activities to improve the quality of services, especially in-patient services, for sick children at health facilities in the respective zones. This would involve coordination with the Regional Resource Training Centers (RRTCs) for skill development and training of nurses and physicians including F-IMNCI training, direct support to the district hospitals through nurse educators, and supporting the development of broader networks for coordination of paediatric care.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

(1) Facilitate implementation of clinical and quality improvement interventions at District Hospitals and Block Level facilities to improve the management and referral of sick children;
(2) Support in engaging and enabling medical colleges and universities to provide mentorship to government health facilities on a continuous basis;
(3) Ensure regular monitoring of the intervention with the help of district staff to critically assess the impact of the capacity initiatives;
(4) Support government in the delivery of F-IMNCI training for the staff teams from CHCs and DHs;
(5) Facilitate regional workshops for the CMOs, CMSs and MOICs to achieve a common understanding of the interventions, challenges and solutions;
(6) Develop specific activity plans in consultation with the RRTCs and GoUP to develop and support area-based teamwork;
(7) Work closely with their counterparts in the government to achieve fully functional health facilities in the identified districts of their respective zones;
(8) Develop clinical program mentoring mechanisms of government facilities by creating institutional links with key medical colleges identified as Regional Resource Training Centers (RRTC).


Applicant must have MBBS degree from a recognized Institute/ University, additional medical qualifications in paediatrics or community medicine will be preferred.

(1) Applicant must have minimum two years of experience in paediatric care;
(2) Minimum one year of clinical experience OR two years of experience in managing RMNCH or relevant public health interventions;
(3) Previous exposure of working along with government will be preferable.

Skills and Competencies:

Technical Skills:
(2) Experience in the area of Maternal Newborn and Child Health would be strong asset;
(3) Very sound understanding of RMNCH component of public health.
(1) Excellent computer skills;

Interpersonal Skills:
(1) Coordination and organizational skills;
(2) Ethnic, cultural, gender, religious, and socioeconomic status sensitivity;
(3) Must be flexible and able to work in a challenging environment;
(4) Good understanding of Indian health care systems and experience in government health system;
(5) Fluency in written and spoken English and Hindi.


Gross compensation for the position shall be attractive. Please note that the offer shall be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and salary history of the selected candidate.
