Project Manager - Water Stewardship

1. POSITION VACANT: Project Manager- Water Stewardship, International Non-profit Organisation, Delhi

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Our client is a respected, international, non-profit, that works in a number of countries across the globe, to help communities, cities, industry and NGOs, accomplish environmental, economic, and social goals.

PURPOSE OF THE POST:

Our client wishes to recruit an outstanding professional to fill the vacancy for Project Manager- Water Stewardship (PM-WS). The post-holder will help ensure the accelerated roll-out and successful delivery of planned outcomes of a key pilot project, designed to transform the management of water resources by manufacturing communities. The project will demonstrate the effectiveness of global and national best practices followed by manufacturing units for water stewardship, culminating in improved water quantity and quality.

Our client shall widely share the learnings and outcomes to accelerate the adoption of these water stewardship practices at a larger scale across India.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Country Director, the PM-WS shall assist project team members to develop and implement robust sustainability and water stewardship practices, while advancing resilience of the communities, through a multi-stakeholder engagement platform.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

(1) Lead the development and implementation of pilot projects on water stewardship in India, providing appropriate technical inputs considering the perspective of different stakeholders, facilitating buy-in from partners for implementation, developing baseline and monitoring systems, etc.;
(2) Work closely with Country Director and other team members of the project to refine, continuously improve, implement and evaluate the project;
(3) Coordinate and evaluate strategic, technical and/or financial assistance in factory clusters, leading the organisation's engagement in these places;
(4) Develop and sustain relationships with partners, donor organizations and key stakeholders, including government bodies, citizen groups and factory management;
(5) Enhance multi-stakeholder engagements through participation in high level advisory committees, trainings and workshops;
(6) Collaborate with the communication team to develop and disseminate knowledge products on best practices and lessons learned;
(7) Support proposal development for improved water management, increased water access and toxic remediation;
(8) Lead monitoring, evaluation and learning activities for the project;
(9) Develop and manage the project work plan and budget in collaboration with Program Officers;
(10) Communicate project activities, challenges and accomplishments to the Country Director, staff and stakeholders. Serve as the main point of communication for the project, ensuring that it remains on track;
(11) Work collaboratively with a distributed team of experts, including consultants and matrixed staff.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:             

Qualifications:
(1) Advanced degree in management, social sciences or related field;
(2) Candidates with a Bachelors’ degree, accompanied by relevant experience, shall also be considered.

Experience:
(1) Minimum five years of relevant professional experience, preferably with exposure to working with, or for community-based non-profit organizations and/or collaborating with relevant agencies (e.g. urban local bodies) and management of factory level engagements;
(2) Experience in the water sector and certification in Project Management shall be preferred;
(3) Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating complex projects with multiple funding sources;
(4) Knowledge of water stewardship and associated industries, specifically the textile industry in India, is considered an advantage. Additional understanding of the NGO landscape (in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh) and governance at the local, state and national levels in water management and toxics remediation a plus.

Essential Skills and Competencies:
(1) Excellent problem-solving ability and ‘can do’ orientation;
(2) Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and community mobilization;
(3) Ability to work collaboratively with distributed, highly matrixed team;
(4) Ability to understand, engage, work, and collaborate with stakeholders from different socioeconomic backgrounds, including farmer communities, industry experts, and local and state governments;
(5) Ability to work proactively and independently, and collaborate as necessary with the ability to prioritize work assignments appropriately and manage the pressure of conflicting demands;
(6) Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite, and Google Apps;
(7) Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
(8) Strong work ethic and personal integrity;
(9) Proven analytical and organizational skills;
(10) Willingness to travel (minimum 30%) within India.

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs. 24 lacs per annum. Please note that the offer shall be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and salary history of the selected candidate.

6. LOCATION: This is a Delhi-based core, permanent position. Our Client is willing to exceptionally consider basing the post-holder in Mumbai or Pune.
