1. POSITION VACANT:  Nutrition Communications Consultant, Vital Strategies [Seconded to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) New Delhi]

Vital Strategies is in the process of working in the area of cardiovascular health in partnership with government and national institutes. It is presently involved in obtaining the requisite statutory clearances and assembling a high-quality team of resource persons. The Nutrition Communications Consultant shall be on the rolls of The Union/ Vital Strategies but stationed at FSSAI, New Delhi. S/he shall provide specialized technical inputs for nutrition communications, relating to the trans-fat and sodium reduction initiatives, supported by Vital Strategies.  The post-holder shall be responsible for helping formulate, influencing and advocating policy relating to the nutrition programme/ initiative, building partnerships and working in close collaboration with the media and other influencers, to enhance and promote their visibility.

Key Responsibilities:

(1) Help position FSSAI as a credible, apex, regulatory agency, safeguarding nutrition and health, as impacted by the trans-fat and sodium content of prepared, packaged and restaurant foods across India;
(2) Help develop and implement appropriate strategic action plans, for expanding FSSAI’s visibility, in alignment with the above objectives;
(3) Oversee implementation of communication campaigns for achieving the above strategies and action plans; 
(4) Develop linkages with strategic external partners including the formal and informal food industry, consumer forums, advocacy groups, etc.;
(5) Document programme activities, including different steps and processes for desired outcomes, with a view to documenting lessons learnt and informing future best practices;
(6) Contribute to the development of an advocacy and communication strategy for key programme priorities by coordinating appropriate research and compiling and analysing relevant data;
(7) Develop a rollout plan for the strategy, targeting key decision-makers, media, etc.;
(8) Assist in developing and maintaining close collaboration with print, broadcast and electronic media, as well as with groups and organizations, whose support is essential for achieving advocacy and communication objectives of the programme.
(9) Coordinate between Vital Strategies and FSSAI;
(10) The selected candidate will have quarterly deliverables based on which the performance will be assessed jointly by FSSAI and Vital Strategies.


(1) Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or equivalent;
(2) University degree in Nutrition, or related field, shall be an added advantage.

(1) 1-3 years of relevant experience in communications for development, preferably in the area of nutrition, with reputed I/NGOs;
(2) Exposure to nutrition/ public health programmes, shall be an advantage.

(1) Excellent writing, editorial, and communication skills, including strong oral presentation skills;
(2) Fluency in English (and preferably Hindi) is essential;
(3) Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills;
(4) Outstanding organizational skills;
(5) Excellent problem-solving skills.


Gross compensation budgeted for the position ranges from Rs. 3.5 to 6 lakhs per annum depending on the experience. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.


The successful candidate shall be issued an initial contract for a period of one year, extended annually, as per the requirement, and based on performance.
