1. POSITION VACANT: Manager - Communication, Centre for Catalyzing Change, New Delhi

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Centre for Catalyzing Change (formerly CEDPA India), is a non-profit organization, focused on improving the lives of women and girls in India by equipping, mobilizing, educating and empowering women and girls, to achieve gender equality.

Centre for Catalyzing Change (C3) helps create and increase educational and livelihood opportunities for adolescent girls, by ensuring access to lifesaving reproductive health information and services and strengthening their ability to become leaders in their communities and the nation. Working in partnership with communities, C3’s proven approach is to develop and give women, young girls and boys the tools they need to improve their lives, as well as that of their families and communities.

C3 is implementing a number of advocacy and intervention programmes at the grassroot, state and national levels in the areas of Youth, Reproductive Rights and Gender & Governance. Programmes include a large evidence to policy initiative that involves the generation of robust data and evidence on diverse aspects of women’s empowerment, combined with policy advocacy and technical support to concerned Government Departments in Bihar.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

C3’s priority for 2018 is to grow its portfolio and achieve set goals. C3 is accordingly looking to recruit a Manager - Communication to lead the organization’s communication portfolio with primary responsibility for developing and implementing strategies that showcase C3 and its work to internal and external audiences.

The Manager- Communication will serve as C3’s resident expert, on all matters relating to communications and media relations. S/he will also help in enhancing media coverage of C3, through relentless engagement in media relations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

(1) Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance C3’s brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences;
(2) Develop and implement a Branding and Marketing strategy, that supports all fundraising and program efforts. Maintain and update organizational brand standards and enforce execution of the brand;
(3)Create marketing/public relations strategy that will allow C3’s leadership, board and staff to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers;
(4) Design and implement strategies to effectively communicate the mission, goals, priorities, products, initiatives, success stories, and accomplishments of C3 to internal and external audiences. Support the implementation of C3’s Strategic Plan into a realistic Plan of Action and support staff in meeting strategic goals;
(5) Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support the same;
(6) Provide support and guidance for the continuous improvement of new business development procedures and processes in the areas of, proposal planning and development, donor prospecting and strategic prioritizing and donor relationship cultivation and stewardship, with a view to ensuring that new business development efforts are efficient, effective and of the highest possible quality. Support the fundraising team with strategic communication for donor acquisition and retention;
(7) Create communications pieces, including program brochures, articles for periodicals, press releases, newsletters, social media updates, blogs and targeted interest pieces;
(8) Strategize and organize events that provide high-quality experiences for attendees, VIPs, and members of the media. Prepare content for public displays representing C3 at these events;
(9) Establish and grow a network of journalists in the national, international and local/ regional news media. Develop, write, and pitch story ideas to journalists. Arrange interviews and organize media events in alignment with C3 goals. Keep the media abreast of C3’s work through case studies, stories, research and events;
(10) Assist in scouting and researching story ideas, spotting trends, and placing stories and commentaries, to raise the visibility of C3;
(11) Write briefings, and provide media training/ support for staff, researchers, and students, as necessary;
(12) Oversee the management of C3’s website and social media presence. Work together with the internal team and communication agency to edit and curate web-content, including blogs, photos, videos, newsletters and social media updates.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Masters’ in mass media, communications, journalism, or equivalent.

Experience:
(1) Candidates must have at least eight years of professional experience in the media and communications field;
(2) Prior experience of working in the development context is essential. Basic knowledge of gender and sexuality, Panchayati Raj system and RMNCH+A (Reproductive, Maternal, New Born, Child and Adolescent Health), shall be an advantage;
(3) Experience in digital content creation and management, with exposure to website and graphic design is essential;
(4) Proficiency in WordPress shall be an advantage.

Skills and Competencies:
(1) Proven track record of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of constituents, including content providers, reporters, and media outlets;
(2) Up-to-date knowledge of social media trends and expectations;
(3) Must be personable, flexible, organized, detail-oriented and able to manage a team independently;
(4) Excellent English and Hindi writing and editing skills; a sense of storytelling, advocacy, and persuasion; an eye for layout and design; and a strong understanding of the organization’s mission and goals. Must have experience of editing written content for structure, syntax, grammar and spelling;
(5) Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills. Must be comfortable with public speaking and building relationships.
